All About That Lace

Delicate and demure—but incredibly hot—lace weaves a captivating web.

Runway from Alberta Ferretti (first two outfits), Marchesa, Chloe, Michael Costello and Tadashi Shoji.

Perhaps the most intriguing and bipolar of all fashion materials, lace is both innocent and in-your-face, both demure and demonstrative. A peek of it here, a whole lot of it there—no matter how much is used, it seduces with a coyness we somehow buy into. Designers have been all over these delicate fabrics this season, incorporating them into flowing dresses, breezy blouses and pants—even shoes, purses and gowns slit sky high. Patterns range from intricate webs to feminine florals, giving women more options than ever before to embrace the lace.
